Hurricane Ike left trees down all over Houston and the surrounding area. Here I wanted to put to use the vast amount of material that is being hauled to landfills by the ton. I have been stopping whenever I have the chance, putting logs into my car, calling friends with pickups when needed to get the larger pieces home.
I think it much better to use this material for the creation of art. The reasons are many, it's 'green', it's fun, it's a great way to explore new materials that would not normally be used in my work.
The members of this series, though disparate in form, are bound in kinship in that they are all made from the 'Gifts' left by Ike.
Additional works using Ike wood can be found in the Hollow Forms Gallery.
